A good friend of mine gave me some exquisite aged balsamic vinegar from O&CO for my birthday (stay tuned for that review) and I was very impressed with the quality of the product. The timing was right. I had just run out of truffle oil, and this time I wanted to try truffle salt. I decided to take a trip over to the Grand Central O&CO boutique on my lunch break.
As any trusted foodie will tell you, quality truffle accents are a prized weapon in any pantry and can make a flat dish sing with just a sprinkle of goodness. I loved my truffle oil but sometimes I didn’t want the extra oiliness that comes with it. The salesman who sold me the salt said the flavor is really intense and a little bit goes a long way. A small $15 jar should last me a few months if stored correctly, and so far it has. This little jar packs a heady, earthy punch replete with real specks of truffle over fine grey sea salt from France. I love sprinkling this on simple things like poaches eggs, pizza, and steamed vegetables. It will liven up any protein, and goes smashingly well with steak. It is also a great finisher for pasta, mashed potatoes, French fries, and soups.
